Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant provides direct support to the Controller and Director of Finance to include but is not limited to the closing cycle, analysis of monthly results and review of the trial balance.  Accounting functions for this position involve recording of investment activity, recording fixed assets, maintenance of the annual budget and prepaid and accrual schedules.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, review and post to the general ledger balance sheet and other related accounting transactions and make adjustments as needed.
  • Review monthly detailed general ledger account analysis and maintain schedule for prepaid assets, accrued expenses and clearing accounts. 
  • Analyzes, review and post to the general ledger all fixed asset records. 
  • Prepare monthly Capital Budget report for Building Committee.
  • Record investment related activity on a monthly basis.
  • Research financial information for audit purposes and financial reporting. 
  • Assist with oversight of A/P and A/R staff, and administrators on day-to-day financial matters, reports and questions. 
  • Prepare and enter journal entries which includes bi-weekly payroll entry, correcting entries, allocating expenditures, and program related entries, etc. 
  • Actively participates in the year-end closing process, annual financial audit, and related analysis
  • Input Approved Annual budget in GL system
  • Assist on monthly interim financial statements
  • Approve expending and encumber capital, temporarily restricted and restricted funds and ensure compliance with The Riverside Church’s policies and procedures therewith. 
  • Ensure proper accounting and reporting of assigned grants, which include year- end calculation of accounts receivables and deferred revenues. 
  • Lead in Ad Hoc report requests
  • Assist with quarterly merchandise inventory count

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Work experience in a not-for-profit organization is preferred     
  • Microsoft Dynamics GP accounting system and Microsoft Excel (with Pivot Tables)
  • Excellent problem solver and ability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from management
